Co-production partner countries

Co-productions are made under formal arrangement between the Australian Government and the Governments of the co-producing country.

Screen productions which have been approved as official co-productions are treated as a ‘national’ film in each partner country, whereby the co-producers are eligible to apply for Australian Government benefits without having to pass the ‘Significant Australian Content’ test.

Likewise, Australian producers may be eligible for Government benefits in countries with co-production treaties. Countries with which Australia has a co-production treaty

include the following:

  • Canada
  • China
  • Germany
  • Ireland
  • Israel
  • Italy
  • Korea
  • Singapore
  • South Africa
  • United Kingdom

In addition to the above treaties, Australia has a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with France and New Zealand.

Australia is currently negotiating co-production treaties with India, Denmark and Malaysia and is renegotiating a treaty with the United Kingdom.
