Professional experience

Matthew is Managing Director of our Darwin practice, PKF Merit. With over 29 years of professional experience in Australia and England, including with a Big 4 accounting firm, Matthew is a trusted advisor who engages and supports his clients through the provision of external audit services, as well as internal audit, probity, compliance and financial reporting services.

Matthew has a diverse portfolio of clients - working with private companies, the Australian Government, Northern Territory Government, local governments, and not-for-profit organisations. His private sector experience extends to clients operating in agribusiness, financial services, hospitality, mining, education and health, including listed companies. Matthew is an authorised audit partner for the Auditor-General of the Northern Territory, and leads audits on behalf of the Australian National Audit Office.

Matthew adopts a collaborative approach in his work, with a focus on building trust and sharing knowledge in order to concentrate on what matters most to his clients. He provides clients with value-added audit and assurance services, with a focus on efficient and effective delivery. Matthew’s effectiveness in identifying and truly understanding the key risks within an organisation, allows him to provide targeted audit and assurance services that are valued by clients as they strive to achieve their strategic and business objectives.

As a born and bred Territorian, Matthew believes it is important for businesses to be embedded within and give back to their local community. In addition to sponsorship this includes volunteering for various not-for-profit organisations in board, treasurer, and audit and risk management committee roles. He has also contributed to the health of the accounting profession through advisory roles on government committees and membership of the CA ANZ SA/NT regional council.
